Delegation is a struggle for most people because of the stories they are telling themselves about the process. How do you feel about delegation? Give yourself a chance for a new perspective.

Do you see delegation as a pointless effort? Do you believe it is a waste of time because you could complete tasks yourself quicker than training someone else? Do you believe the task won’t be completed correctly by someone else? Delegation is not a releasing of responsibility, it’s a reorganization of that responsibility. It’s this simple:

Delegation is NOT:

· An event of assigning simple, unpopular or isolated tasks on a whim

· An end in itself, and does NOT mean you are no longer responsible

· A short-term strategy, and it does NOT assume

Delegation IS:

· A process that takes time, planning, communication, and supervision

· A method that allows you to do less of the task and develop skills for others

· An investment in development and growth for all

Rules for Effective Delegation:

· Offer and encourage plenty of feedback

· Listen carefully first, seek to understand before responding

· Teach by showing, watching, and answering questions

· Establish checkpoints and by-when dates

· Follow-up! Make sure the task does not fall off the radar

· Check the work

When delegation is done correctly, it will allow for growth and expansion!
